Holiday Spirit in Our HEART
When it comes to the employees of Heart Technologies, we are always willing to give, and the holidays are no exception. The Center for Prevention of Abuse contacted us about sponsoring a family, and we jumped at the chance to help out. The Center for Prevention of Abuse is a nonprofit organization focused on providing all victims of abuse–men, women, and children–with the resources to start a life free of violence and/or abuse.
This season, The Center for Prevention of Abuse sought out sponsors for families that may not be able to afford gifts for the holidays. These families are breaking free from their abusive and/or violent pasts. In many cases, these families have had to leave things behind–including financial security–in order to start anew. When the holidays roll around, it can be hard or impossible for these families to afford presents. The Center for Prevention of Abuse looks to volunteers to donate gifts so no child goes present-less this holiday season.
In our East Peoria office, a wire snowman was set up with cards hung from it. These cards each listed one item that was requested by the family Heart sponsored. Each employee was given the opportunity to pick one (or more!) cards with the understanding that they would buy the item listed in the card. Employees took to the stores to find the gifts for this family. Monetary donations were also collected so that if an employee wanted to give back but was unable to shop, our designated “Heart shopper” could purchase a gift on their behalf. Unwrapped gifts were brought to the East Peoria office collection bin. The presents were brought to the Center on Friday, December 4.
